Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez has expressed strong belief in Nigeria’s chances of lifting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following his side’s elimination from the tournament.

The Desert Foxes were knocked out after a 2–0 defeat to the Super Eagles in Saturday’s quarter-final, a result that confirmed Nigeria’s place in the semi-finals.

Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams proved decisive as Nigeria delivered a disciplined and clinical performance to bring Algeria’s campaign to an end. The victory further underlined the Super Eagles’ growing momentum at the tournament.

Reflecting on the outcome, Mahrez praised the quality within the Nigerian squad and suggested the current generation has what it takes to go all the way.

“Maybe it will be the time for Nigeria to win,” Mahrez said. “They have a good generation. Sometimes you can have a good generation and not win, but I think they have a good chance.”

Nigeria are now firmly in contention for a fourth AFCON title and will face hosts Morocco in a highly anticipated semi-final clash. The other semi-final will see record champions Egypt take on Senegal as the tournament moves into its decisive final stages.
