Terem Moffi is currently leading the list of Nigerian top scorers in Europe after grabbing his sixth goal of the season in Lorient’s 3-1 win over Auxerre in a French Ligue 1 encounter on Friday, as Regis Le Bris’ side continue their impressive start to the season.
Moffi scored the second goal for Lorient in the comfortable win which took them to third on the table and equal on points with leaders Paris Saint-Germain and second placed Olympique Marseille on 19 points.
This was Lorient’s first win at Auxerre in 10 attempts in all competitions. Les Merlus had never won at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps and the last time they even came away with a share of the points was in Ligue 2 BKT back in December 2018.
The Nigeria international is Lorient’s top scorer with six goals from eight games and is currently Nigeria’s top scorer in Europe’s top 5 league ahead of stars such as Victor Osimhen (2), Sadiq Umar (3), Taiwo Awoniyi (2), Kelechi Iheanacho (1), Ademola Lookman (1) and Moses Simon (3).
The 23-year-old who only managed to score eight goals in 37 games in the 2021/22 campaign will be hoping to equal and break the record when they face Lille after the international break on October 2.
