Nigeria’s Super Falcons suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in their pre-WAFCON friendly at the Military Stadium, Yaoundé, on Saturday.
The game served as a warm-up for both sides ahead of the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria will be aiming to retain their title while Cameroon will be eyeing a maiden continental crown.
Head coach Justin Madugu named a side mixed with new faces and experienced players as goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor made her debut while Rasheedat Ajibade captained the side. Gift Monday led the line and Ngozi Okobi returned to the starting lineup after three years.
Despite the rotation, the Super Falcons made a decent start to the game and tried to create big opportunities on few occasions. However, Cameroon’s defense stood firm, denying Madugu’s side from netting the opener in a tight first half.

Nigeria continued to push for a goal in the second half, but were unable to break the deadlock. In the 64th minute, Okobi and Rinsola Babajide were substituted for Folashade Ijamilusi and Precious Christopher, who came on for her debut.
Few minutes to the end of the game, the hosts found a breakthrough, sealing a 1-0 win in the dying minutes.
The Super Falcons will now prepare for the second friendly match between both sides as they face off once again on Tuesday, March 3rd.
