South African club Chippa United hail Nwabali after penalty heroics against Bafana Bafana

South African side, Chippa United Football Club, has expressed its heartfelt congratulations to its goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who was instrumental in leading Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nwabali saved two penalty kicks as the Super Eagles defeated South Africa 4-2 on penalties on Wednesday to qualify for the final of the 2023 AFCON.

In a letter dated February 8, 2024, the club praised Nwabali for his extraordinary achievement in reaching the AFCON 2023 finals and for also earning the Man of the Match award.

“Our support for you remains steadfast,” read part of the letter signed by Chairman Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi.

Nwabali’s remarkable skills were on full display as he defended his goal post with unwavering determination and skill against Bafana Bafana.

“You have represented Chippa United brand admirably, and we are immensely proud of you. We will be rooting for you in the Finals this Sunday against host country, Côte d’Ivoire,” continued the letter.

The club had earlier shown its support for Nwabali prior to the semifinal clash against South Africa, in a statement that sparked mixed reactions among fans and pundits. The club said it was proud of Nwabali’s achievements and wished him well in the match.

The Nigeria goalkeeper has been in exceptional form, conceding only two goals in the competition and ensuring the Super Eagles are yet to lose a game at the 2023 AFCON.
