South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, who are the Super Eagles’ opponents in Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers, failed to arrive in Uyo on Wednesday as they were forced to spend the night in Port Harcourt after arriving in the country late.
The team, in a tweet late Wednesday evening, said the Uyo airport had closed for the night by the time they were scheduled to take off from Port Harcourt, where they had arrived late.
“Bafana Bafana have been on the road for 18 hours and still not at base in Nigeria. The team is currently at Port Harcourt Airport, where they cleared customs, awaiting transfer to the hotel to spend the night. The Uyo airport had closed by the time the team was scheduled to take off,” the team tweeted.
Bafana Bafana had earlier tweeted about the flight delay they experienced before taking off for Nigeria on Wednesday morning.
The game between South Africa and Nigeria is scheduled for 8 pm on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
