Samuel Chukwueze joins AC Milan on five-year-deal

AC Milan have announced the signing of Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, from La Liga side Villarreal on a five-year deal worth €28m including add-ons. At the same time, defender Matteo Gabbia has been loaned to the Yellow Submarine.

The 24-year-old arrived in Milan on Wednesday for his medicals which he passed with flying colours according to reports in Italy. The Nigeria international had been a priority target for the Rossoneri as they head into the 2023/24 season.

Chukwueze will be the club’s starting right winger and will play a major role for the Milan side alongside 2021 Italian Series A Most Valuable Player, Rafael Leao who has decided to stay at the club.

The club in a statement on Thursday announced the arrival of the tricky winger also revealing that the player has opted to wear the No. 21 jersey next season.

“AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Samuel Chimerenka Chukwueze from Villarreal CF. The Nigerian forward has signed for the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028,” the statement on the club’s website reads.

“Born in Umuahia (Nigeria) on 22 May 1999, Samuel came through the Diamond Football Academy Youth Sector before moving to Villarreal in 2017. With the Spanish club’s B team, he played 20 games and scored four goals before making his debut with the senior team in September 2018, featuring 207 times, scoring 37 goals, and winning 1 Europa League. 

“He has been capped 28 times for Nigeria and scored four goals. Samuel Chukwueze has chosen the number 21 jersey.”

Milan are currently in the United States for pre-season friendlies.
