Benin Republic national team coach Gernot Rohr has unveiled his 25-man squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya.
Les Guepards of Benin will face off against the Super Eagles on Thursday November 14 at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny, Abidjan, before they jet off to face Libya in the last game of the group stage 4 days later.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are in firm control of Group D with 10 points in four matches. Benin Republic sit second with six points while Rwanda sit third with five points. The fourth position is occupied by Libya with just one point from four matches.
Benin Republic will thus have to avoid a loss to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON at Morocco. Meanwhile, Nigeria will only need a point to guarantee qualification for the tournament.
Bold Sports had reported that Benin Republic defeated Nigeria in the World Cup qualifier at the same venue earlier in the year, one of the two games they played with former coach Finidi George in charge. To repeat this feat, the Benin team would need to rely on the expertise of their forwards who scored against Nigeria, Steve Mounie and Jodel Dousou.
