Remo Stars’ struggles in the Nigeria Premier Football League continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Kun Khalifat at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan – their temporary home for the rest of the season.

The Sky Blue Stars were earlier banished to Ibadan and fined ₦7 million by the league body after their supporters physically attacked fans of visiting Ikorodu City in Ikenne, with the visitors’ and players buses also vandalised.

Hoping to begin life in Ibadan on a positive note, Remo Stars endured a shaky start and were stunned in the 5th minute when Ebetomame Oghenetega fired Kun Khalifat into the lead.

Remo responded by throwing everything forward in search of an equaliser, creating several chances that went begging. Victor Mbaoma, Michael Ibe, Haruna Hadi, Albert Korvah and Fabian Nworie all failed to convert, before Ahmed Akinyele finally restored parity in the 78th minute with a long-range effort.

Despite late pressure from the hosts, Kun Khalifat held firm to deny Remo Stars a winner, as both sides settled for a share of the spoils in Ibadan. The result represented a well-earned point for bottom-placed Kun Khalifat, who moved to 19 points, seven adrift of safety.

Remo Stars, meanwhile, remain just two points above the relegation zone and will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to Ozoro to face Warri Wolves in their next league fixture.
