Ajibade nearly completed a hat trick but had to settle for a brace. Her shot in the 21st minute was mishandled by goalkeeper Paola Ulloa, resulting in an own goal. The Nigerian international then showcased her skill by dribbling past Madrid’s defender and slotting the ball into the net in the 51st minute to give Atletico a 2-0 lead.
Her impressive derby performance continued in the 91st minute, as she powered her side to a 3-0 advantage. Synne Jensen sealed the deal in the 94th minute, securing Atletico’s fourth consecutive win of the season.
Ajibade’s brace has elevated her to the top of the league’s scoring charts with four goals in four matches. Real Sociedad’s Amaiuer Sarriegi and Barcelona’s Caroline Hansen follow with two goals each.
Atletico will aim to dethrone Barcelona, which has won the league for the past five seasons. Atletico were the last team to claim the title before Barcelona’s dominance.
