Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is expected to undergo his medical with Turkish club Trabzonspor this week ahead of a permanent move from Southampton, according to sports journalist Buchi Laba.

An agreement had already been reached between both clubs as confirmed by Southampton and Onuachu was initially scheduled for his medical over the weekend, with travel arrangements made via private jet, but unforeseen circumstances forced a change of plans.

The new arrangement will see the Nigerian forward travel to Turkey alongside his family before finalising the move and signing a three-year contract with Trabzonspor.

Onuachu has been determined to return to Turkey following an impressive loan spell with Trabzonspor during the 2023-24 season. Despite Southampton reportedly receiving a more lucrative offer from a Belgian club, the striker was firm in his decision to rejoin the Turkish side.

The towering striker enjoyed a prolific season on loan, netting 17 goals and providing four assists to help Trabzonspor finish third in the league and reach the Turkish Cup final, where they narrowly lost to Beşiktaş.

In contrast, Onuachu struggled to make an impact at Southampton, scoring just four goals in 40 appearances over two and a half seasons, a period hampered by persistent injury setbacks.

Onuachu initially joined Southampton from Belgian side KRC Genk in January 2023 for a fee of €18 million but was unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation from the Premier League that season.
