Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will return to Napoli this weekend but will be unavilable to face Genoa in an Italian Serie A matchup on Saturday afternoon, according to reports. 

Osimhen led the lines for Nigeria at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations where the Eagles finished as runners-up to hosts Cote d’Ivoire after losing 2-1 in the final.

The 25-year-old is still in Nigeria having visited the country’s capital and met with Nigeria’s president  on Tuesday where members of the team and officials were honoured with MON (Member of the Order of Niger) awards, one flat in Nigeria and a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory, as a sign of appreciation for their service at the AFCON.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio per Football Italia, the Nigerian striker will arrive arrive Naples on Friday or Saturday in time to prepare with the team ahead of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Barcelona next week Wednesday and not Genoa.

“Given that Napoli are in action against Genoa on Saturday afternoon, it is unlikely that Osimhen will be involved if he arrives in Italy on the same day,” the reports states.

“It will still be a tight turnaround if Osimhen arrives on Friday, as there will probably not be an opportunity to train with the team heading into the Genoa match.”

As it stands, there’s no injury concerns for the striker and he should be well rested and trained with his club teammates to be able to start against Barcelona. 

Osimhen has scored eight goals in 18 appearances for the Partonepei this season.
