Omotayo bows out of Olympics after Round of 64 loss

Olajide Omotayo became the first Nigerian to exit the Paris 2024 Olympics after losing his Round of 64 game in the men’s table tennis singles event, on Saturday.

Omotayo, lost 4-1 to Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan to exit the competition.

The 29-year-old failed to capitalise on his winning the first set 11-6, going on to lose the next four 11-5, 11-4, 12-10 and 11-8.

Nigeria will hope for a better outing from Africa’s No. 1-ranked player Quadri Aruna who takes on Eduard Ionescu later this evening.

The country’s other representative, Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello, are billed for action on Sunday and Monday respectively in the women’s singles.
