Ola Aina missed training with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday as preparations intensified for the UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg against Aston Villa.

‎According to skysport, the absence comes after the defender picked up an injury during the first leg at the City Ground, where Forest secured a 1-0 advantage heading into the decisive encounter.

‎Aina has been a key figure this season. He has made 26 appearances across all competitions and registered one assist. He also featured in the first leg win that gave Forest control of the tie.

‎His absence was already felt when he missed the 3-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. That performance highlighted the squad’s depth, but losing a consistent starter at this stage raises concern.

Manager Viktor Pereira now faces a selection challenge ahead of a crucial European night. Forest aim to protect their narrow lead and secure a place in the final. Without Aina, defensive balance becomes a key tactical issue.

‎Alongside Aina, Morgan Gibbs-White, Ibrahim Sangaré, and Dan Ndoye also missed training. However, there was a boost as Murillo returned to the squad. His availability could prove vital in maintaining defensive structure.

‎Aina’s injury also affects the Nigeria national football team. Head coach Eric Chelle faces uncertainty ahead of the Unity Cup in London. Nigeria will defend their title later this month after winning it at the Gtech Community Stadium last year.

‎The tournament, scheduled from May 26 to 30, includes India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe. Aina’s fitness will be closely monitored, given his importance to the squad’s defensive setup.

‎Forest’s European run has relied on discipline and compact play. Losing several first-team players at once may disrupt that rhythm. Still, their first-leg performance showed resilience under pressure.
