In a heartfelt message, Nigerian goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke said goodbye to fans and officials of Enyimba Football Club after signing with Sudanese club Al-Merrikh Sporting Club.
Olorunleke, 28, spent the last 3 seasons with Enyimba after joining from Akwa United. He rose to become the team captain during his time there.
Olorunleke signed a 2-year deal with Al Merrikh Omdurman. He played his last game for Enyimba on Sunday in a 2-0 win over Plateau United that secured them a CAF Confederation Cup spot.
Olorunleke’s letter reads in part:
“As I prepare to bid farewell to the club I have called home for the past three years, I am filled with a mix of emotions – sadness to be leaving behind a family that has given me so much, but also gratitude and appreciation for the incredible journey we have shared together.
“From the moment I arrived at Enyimba FC, I knew I was part of something special. Your unwavering support, encouragement, and love have been the driving force behind my performances on the pitch. Your cheers have pushed me to give my all, and your belief in me has made me a better player.
“I am proud of what we have achieved together, particularly winning the Nigeria Professional Football League title last season. Your support was instrumental in our success, and I will never forget the electric atmosphere at the stadium as we lifted the trophy. The chants, the drums, and the sea of blue and white jerseys created a memory that I will treasure forever.
“I want to thank the entire Enyimba FC management, coaching staff, and my teammates for their support and guidance throughout my time here. Your wisdom, expertise, and camaraderie have helped shape me into a better player and person.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the fans – the heartbeat of this great club. Your unwavering support, both home and away, has been the fuel that has driven me to give my all for this club. I am honored to have had the privilege of wearing the Enyimba FC jersey and representing this great institution.
“As I move on to new challenges, I will always cherish the memories and lessons learned during my time here. I will continue to support and cheer for this great club, knowing that the future is bright and full of promise.”
