Nigerian striker Anthony Nwakaeme has returned to training ahead of Trabzonspor’s midweek Turkish Cup Group C clash against Rizespor on Wednesday.

Nwakaeme, who missed Trabzonspor’s 2-1 defeat to Besiktas and their 3-2 victory over Gaziantep due to a calf injury, resumed full training with the squad on Monday.

Technical Director Şenol Güneş is expected to include Nwakaeme in the matchday squad, though it remains uncertain whether the one-cap Super Eagles forward will start.

Since rejoining Trabzonspor after a two-season spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha, Nwakaeme has contributed two goals and three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.

While he has yet to recapture the prolific form of his first stint at the club, he has compensated with experience, mentoring younger talents such as Simon Banza, one of the Turkish Super Lig’s most in-form players with 16 goals in 20 games.

The game against Rizespor is a historic one for Nwakaeme as it will be his 165th appearance in all competitions for the club. He would also be looking to score his 50th goal for the club in the encounter.

Ibrahim Olawoyin and David Akintola who are on Rizespor’s payroll would be looking to ensure that they stop Trabzonspor from getting a win.
