Remo Stars bolstered their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title ambitions with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Sky Blue Stars faced an early setback when Uche Sebastine put Akwa United ahead in the sixth minute. Despite the early blow, Remo Stars stayed disciplined, adhering to their game plan throughout the encounter.
Their persistence paid off in the 74th minute when Arinze Anakwe struck the equalizer. Both sides intensified their efforts for a winning goal, but it was Olamilekan Adedayo who sealed the victory for the visitors with an 85th-minute strike, securing all three points for Remo Stars.
This marks the club’s 12th win of the season, solidifying their position at the top of the NPFL table. They now hold a five-point lead over second-placed Rivers United, who fell 2-1 to Plateau United at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday.
The NPFL resumed for the first time in 2025 this weekend following a three-and-a-half-week festive break.
Remo Stars are aiming for their maiden league title since the club’s establishment in 2016. After finishing second in the last two seasons, the team remains in fine form, boasting an unmatched home and away record this campaign, with 18 games still to go.
