The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) have announced a 14-player squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, as the Female Yellow Greens gear up to compete for a spot on the global stage, Bold Sports reports.
The tournament, scheduled to begin on August 31, serves as a crucial step in Nigeria’s journey toward qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Agboya Peculiar will captain the side, leading a balanced squad that blends consistent performers with rising stars. The team features established players like Lucky Piety, known for her all-round brilliance, Victory Igbinedion, Salome Sunday, and Kehinde Amusa, alongside promising debutant Omonkhobhio Oseyande.
Speaking after the squad announcement, NCF President Dr. Uyi Akpata expressed confidence in the team’s prospects: “This squad represents the future of women’s cricket in Nigeria. Their talent and resilience reflect our development strategy, and we are optimistic about their prospects at the Qualifier,” he said.
Nigeria will open their campaign on August 31 against Sierra Leone, before facing Namibia on September 1 and wrapping up their group fixtures against Zimbabwe on September 3.
The announcement comes on the back of Nigeria’s impressive outing at the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, where the Junior Female YellowGreens stunned the cricketing world by defeating Ireland and New Zealand to finish third in Group B of the Super Six standings, narrowly missing out on the semifinals.

The team’s performance secured automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup, marking a historic milestone for Nigerian cricket. During that campaign, captain Lucky Piety also made history by hitting the first-ever six for a Nigerian women’s team in an ICC World Cup match.
With recent successes fueling their confidence, the Female Yellow Greens will be determined to build on their progress and deliver a strong performance at the Qualifier, keeping Nigeria’s hopes of competing at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup alive.
