Chelsea coach, Enzo Maresca has passed up the chance to sign Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, Boldsports reports.
Osimhen who scored 17 goals for Napoli last season has been linked with a move to several top European clubs with Arsenal currently leading the race for his signature.
Chelsea have long been linked with Napoli striker Osimhen, who as a boy growing up in Lagos idolised Didier Drogba.
However, the Blues coach who recently signed a five year deal with an option of another year, reportedly pulled the plug on the move for the Nigerian transfer, according to Italian website, Tutto Mercato.
The report revealed that Maresca insisted he needed a different type of striker with his preference for Artem Dovbyk, who plays for Spanish La Liga side Girona.
Dovbyk scored 24 goals in all competitions for Girona and helped the modest Spanish team finish third in La Liga to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
His release clause is €40, which is far cheaper than what Chelsea will have had to pay for Osimhen.
Meanwhile, Maresca is poised to reunite with former Fulham defender, Tosin Adarabioyo after he underwent medicals at Chelsea on Tuesday.
He is expected to fill the void left by Thiago Silva who left for Fluminense.
