Super Eagles winger Moses Simon provided his eighth Ligue 1 assist of the season, helping 10-man Nantes edge Lille 1-0 at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday.

Nantes were under pressure to secure a victory after back-to-back losses that had pushed them toward the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Lille sought to make the most of their Ligue 1 campaign after being eliminated from the Champions League.

The first half ended goalless, but Lille dominated the second half in search of a breakthrough. However, Nantes’ defense held firm, limiting the away team’s scoring opportunities while also launching purposeful counterattacks.

Despite receiving a red card after Jean-Charles Castelleto was sent off in the 74th minute, Nantes failed to give up and their resilience eventually paid off in the 83rd minute when substitute Mostafa Mohammed scored his fourth league goal of the season, courtesy of a pinpoint cross from Moses Simon, securing a vital win for the home side in their quest to avoid the drop.

The victory propelled Nantes to 14th place with 27 points from 26 games, six points clear of the relegation zone. Lille, meanwhile, missed the chance to break into the top four, remaining fifth with 44 points.

Nantes will aim to build on this momentum and further distance themselves from the relegation zone when they face Le Havre on March 30, following the international break. Lille, meanwhile, will seek to bounce back against Lens.
