In a thrilling finale, Moses Simon and Nantes have secured their place in the French topflight league for the upcoming 2023/24 season, successfully avoiding relegation with a crucial 1-0 victory over the already relegated Angers in their final match.
Entering the game at the Beaujoire Stadium, Nantes knew that only a triumph would keep them in the race for survival, with the additional hope that Auxerre would stumble against Lens.
Under the guidance of Pierre Aristouy, Nantes remained composed and secured all three points, thanks to an early 16th-minute goal by their talented Cameroonian striker, Ignatius Kpene Ganago. Meanwhile, Auxerre suffered a 3-1 defeat at home against Lens, sealing their relegation fate.
The season has been a roller-coaster ride for Nantes, who exceeded expectations during the 2021/22 league campaign while securing a respectable position.
Moses Simon showcased his skills and played a pivotal role as one of Nantes’ standout performers in the first half of the season, finding the net five times. However, he experienced a dip in form during the latter half of the season, failing to score in his last 21 appearances for the club.
