Ademola Lookman will be aiming to lead Atletico Madrid into the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League when they face FC Barcelona in the second leg of their quarterfinal clash on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles winger has been a key figure for Atletico in Europe this season, registering two goal involvements in five appearances as the Spanish side push for a return to the last four.
Diego Simeone’s men head into the decisive fixture with a strong advantage after securing a 2-0 victory in the first leg, leaving them needing only a draw or a narrow defeat to progress.
Atletico have also enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings, facing Barcelona five times this season and winning twice, including a victory that saw them eliminate Hansi Flick’s side from the Copa del Rey.

A place in the semifinals would mark Atletico’s first appearance at that stage of the competition since the 2016–17 campaign, when they were eliminated by rivals Real Madrid.
For Lookman, progression would represent another significant step in his European journey. The Nigerian forward already has continental success to his name, having scored a hat-trick to help Atalanta win the Europa League title in 2024.
Reaching the semifinals would also move him closer to joining the select group of Nigerian players who have lifted the Champions League trophy, with Nwankwo Kanu, Finidi George and John Obi Mikel the only players from the country to have achieved the feat.
