Kwara United have been handed a severe punishment by the disciplinary committee of the Nigeria Premier Football League following the crowd violence that marred its recent NPFL fixture against Rivers United FC.

‎League authorities announced that the Ilorin-based club has been fined N9 million
, deducted three points and three goals, and ordered to play its remaining home matches away from its traditional ground. The team will now host fixtures in Abeokuta for the rest of the season.

‎The sanctions come after supporters invaded the pitch and attacked match officials following a late equaliser in the 1–1 draw, an incident that drew widespread condemnation across Nigerian football.

‎As a direct consequence of the points deduction, Kwara United drop to 19th position on the league table with 26 points, significantly worsening their relegation battle. The loss of three goals also affects their goal difference, a factor that could prove decisive as the season approaches its final stretch.

‎Playing home games outside Ilorin is expected to further complicate the club’s survival hopes, as teams often rely on familiar conditions and local support to secure crucial results.

‎Disciplinary measures of this scale underline the league’s zero-tolerance stance on attacks against officials and crowd disorder. Such penalties are intended both as punishment and as a deterrent to other clubs.

‎Kwara United have yet to publicly confirm whether they will appeal the decision, but the ruling leaves the Afonja Warriors facing a difficult path to safety in the closing weeks of the campaign.
