Josh Maja was on target for Bordeaux FC in their 2-0 victory over SC Bastia in a French Ligue 2 encounter at the atmut Atlantique Stadium on Saturday as they continued their push for promotion to Ligue 1 at the end of the 2022/23 league season.
Bordeaux are currently second on the Ligue 2 log, four points behind Le Havre who still have a game in hand and five points ahead of third placed Metz who also have a game in hand.
Maja opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 34th minute sending the goalkeeper the wrong way while midfielder Fransergio made it 2-0 three minutes after the restart of the second half.
Having had a dry spell after his explosive start to the season, Maja’s return to form has coincided with the club’s promotion push. In his last four games, the Nigerian has provided two assists and two goals which has been instrumental to the team gaining 10 points from a possible 12.
So far this season, the 24-year-old one-capped Super Eagles player has scored 13 goals while providing five assists for Les Girondins in 30 league appearances. He was replaced by Aliou Badji in the 78th minute.
