Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi reached a major career milestone on Saturday, making his 300th Premier League appearance, but it ended in disappointment as Fulham suffered a late 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

The Cottagers came into the clash hoping to halt a three-game losing streak, yet it was the Magpies who drew first blood through Jacob Murphy’s 18th-minute strike.

Fulham battled back after the break, and their persistence paid off when Sasa Lukic equalised in the 56th minute to restore hope for Marco Silva’s side.

However, just when it looked like the visitors might earn a valuable point, Bruno Guimaraes snatched all three points for Newcastle with a decisive late goal, deepening Fulham’s woes.

The result lifts Eddie Howe’s men to 11th place in the Premier League standings, while Fulham are languishing in 16th, with four consecutive league defeats.

Newcastle will look to build on the victory when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Marco Silva’s side travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday, desperate to find a response and regain their form.

For Iwobi, the milestone cements his status as one of Africa’s most consistent figures in English football. He joins an exclusive group of African players who have also surpassed 300 Premier League appearances, including Kolo Touré (353), Mohamed Salah (309), Jordan Ayew (305), and Wilfried Zaha (305)
