After five straight draws in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Bendel Insurance returned to winning ways beating visiting El Kanemi Warriors 2-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Saturday in a matchday 15 league fixture.

After a cagey affair in the first half, the Edo Gunners sprung into life in the second half scoring two quick goals putting the home supporters at ease. Sarki Ismael grabbed the opener in the 54th minute while Austine Ogunye made it 2-0 in the 57th minute.

The visitors pulled one back in the 69th minute from the penalty spot through Muhammed Hussaini who sent Amas Obasogie the wrong way. However, the hosts held on for their eighth win of the season in 15 unbeaten league games.

The victory sees Monday Odigie’s side go seven points clear of second placed Enyimba but the Aba Elephants have played one game less. They’ll welcome Remo Stars to the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Sunday.

Enyimba have lost just once in their last five league games while Remo Stars have drawn their last three games in the league.
