I won’t leave Napoli in January – Victor Osimhen

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, has ruled out a January move away from Serie A table toppers Napoli stating that he hopes to win trophies with the Italian club.

Osimhen has been one of the most targeted strikers in Europe after his impressive performance for the Partenopei since joining the side from modest Ligue 1 side Lille in 2020. Several English Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham have been in the running for his signature but Napoli has placed a €100m price tag on the lanky forward.

The Nigeria international who is currently the top scorer in the Series A with nine goals from 11 games despite playing fewer games than second placed Marko Arnautovic and third top scorer Lautaro Martínez and Ademola Lookman says his thought at the moment is to help Napoli win trophies not on the January transfer window.

“The future is this moment, try to win something relevant in Italy,” Osimhen told Il Mattino.

“It’s hard to think about something better than Napoli, one of the best clubs in Italy, right now I am only focused on this season because we haven’t done anything yet. We must win something and then we’ll see what happens.”

Napoli are currently unbeaten in the Serie A recording 13 wins and two draws sitting eight points ahead of second placed AC Milan. Despite being eight points ahead, Osimhen insists that the fight for the Scudetto is not yet over.

“We’re looking forward to starting again,” said the 23-year-old.

“Nobody thinks that these eight points give any guarantee for the future. The season is long and we are aware that we must not slow down to keep the lead.

“We must continue like this, work hard, pretending we are not at the top of the table. We must not think about those looking forward to our defeat. We want to beat Inter, but it won’t be easy.”

The Super Eagles star has scored 10 goals while providing three assists in 14 games across all competitions.
