Ajax striker Chuba Akpom has credited his hat-trick against Jagiellonia Białystok in the Europa Conference League on Thursday to his perseverance.
Akpom helped Ajax secure a convincing 4-1 victory away from home in Ekstraklasa, Poland in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League playoffs.
The striker drew level at 1-1 for his first in the ninth minute, just four minutes after the hosts took the lead, after being assisted by Steven Berghuis.

He then followed it up with a rebound from a loose ball for his second in the 61st minute and completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 69th minute.
Akpom 28, has had a challenging career at the Dutch club since joining last year, facing criticism for not fitting the typical Ajax playing style.
Brian Brobbey has been the preferred striker at Ajax, with Akpom starting only five league games and coming in for another 17 games.
After the match, a jubilant Akpom shared his thoughts with Ziggo Sport.
“A hat trick is a great feeling for a striker. It’s special, great. My first goals of the season, but the win is the most important. I always give everything. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m happy to represent Ajax.”
Reflecting on his recent struggles and the importance of perseverance, Akpom added, “I am a positive person. I keep trying. Even if it goes wrong a few times. I always do that. That perseverance pays off.”
Despite transfer rumours swirling around him, Akpom remains focused on his role at Ajax. “I don’t focus on rumours. I just give one hundred percent for Ajax. I did that now too. I block out all distractions,” he stated.
The striker also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to play for Ajax and work under Farioli: “I try not to listen to it. I love working under this coach. I feel happy. I appreciate that Farioli has confidence in me. I am grateful and happy that I can wear the Ajax shirt. Who wouldn’t be?”
