Gernot Rohr has announced a 25-man squad for the Republic of Benin’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya. The matches are scheduled for September 7th and 10th, respectively.
Rohr, who led Benin to a surprising 2-1 win over Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in June, will be eager to secure another victory against his former team. The encounter is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Franco-German coach, speaking to the press in Cotonou, extended invitations to two locally-based players: Bachirou Sika Souleymane from Coton FC and Samadou Attidjèkou from Banigansè FC.

The 25-player squad includes three goalkeepers, nine defenders, eight midfielders, and five forwards. With the players reporting for camp on Monday, Rohr is confident that the Cheetahs have what it takes to upset Nigeria once again, this time on Nigerian soil.
“We have players in rhythm and they know that we have to start the campaign well even if we start against the most difficult team, Nigeria, who come with the great players Osimhen, Ekong and Ndidi,” he said.
The game will be the first test for newly acquired Super Eagles coach Bruno Labbadia.
