FIFA Ranking: Super Eagles down two places to 30th

The Super Eagles dropped two places to 30th in the latest FIFA Ranking released by the world football governing body on Thursday.

The Super Eagles had moved up 14 places from 42nd in the world to 28th when the last ranking was released in February after the placed second at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, losing the final match to the host nation.

Poland’s Euro 2024 playoff victory over Wales which saw them qualify for the tournament helped them move up two places leapfrogging their opponents and Nigeria in the process to 18th.

During the same period, Nigeria played two friendly matches, defeating Ghana 2-1 on March 22 before losing 2-0 to Mali four days later.

They however still maintained their position as the third-ranked country in the country behind Morocco – who dropped one spot to 13th – and Senegal – who maintained their 17th position is the world.

Completing the continent’s top five are Egypt in 37th – down one spot and Ivory Coast in 38th – moving up one spot.

Argentina and France maintained their top two positions, while Belgium leapfrogged England as the two nations exchanged third and fourth positions. Brazil also remained unchanged in fifth.

Portugal moved up one position to replace Netherlands who are now seventh, while Spain, Italy and Croatia remained unmoved in eight, ninth and 10th positions.

The next World Ranking will be published on June 20.
