Nigeria’s Falconets will kick off their campaign at the 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup with a tough opening clash against defending champions Ghana’s Black Maidens on Saturday, Bold Sports reports.

The competition, which runs from November 7 to 12 in Cotonou, Benin Republic, will feature only three nations including Nigeria, Ghana, and the hosts, following the withdrawal of other West African teams.

In a shift from the traditional group-and-knockout format, this year’s edition will adopt a round-robin system, meaning each team will face the others twice. The team with the highest points at the end of all fixtures will be crowned champions.

The Falconets will begin their campaign against Ghana on November 8, before facing Benin Republic on November 9. They will then play Ghana again on November 11 and conclude their run against the hosts on November 12.

Head coach Moses Aduku’s side will be aiming for victory after missing out on the title to Ghana in 2023. The Falconets will also use the tournament as part of their preparations for the final round of the U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

With pride and bragging rights in West African women’s football at stake, Saturday’s encounter promises to be a thrilling clash between two of the region’s fiercest rivals.
