The wait is on to see who Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, will face in the group stage of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. The draw takes place on June 5th, 2024, in Bogotá at 4 PM Nigerian time.
This year’s tournament marks a first, expanding to 24 teams divided into six groups. The draw will determine the Falconets’ group-stage opponents and their path through the competition.

While seeded in Pot 2, the Falconets could still face some tough competition in the group stage. Teams like Germany, Argentina, and even Costa Rica, the host nation, are all possibilities. This first stage will be crucial in setting the path for the rest of the tournament.
Thankfully, Nigeria avoids facing top-ranked teams like the USA, Brazil, and the Netherlands in the initial group draw. They’ll also steer clear of fellow African representatives Ghana (Pot 3) and Cameroon and Morocco (both in Pot 4).
Joining Nigeria in representing Africa are Cameroon, Ghana, and Morocco.
In total, 24 nations will vie for the championship title: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Fiji, France, Germany, Ghana, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Paraguay, Spain, USA, and Venezuela.
