Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle has revealed that he supported the Super Eagles growing up, holding their rich history and exceptional talent in high regard.

Eric Chelle shared this personal anecdote during his official unveiling ceremony as the Super Eagles’ new head coach, which took place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium’s media conference room on Monday.

In his words: “When I was young, this was my favorite team. I bought the shirt and I watched every game. During the World Cup in France, I was in Marseille and I watched their matches,” he said.

”This is my team and I want to be in the history. I will talk to the players and I’ll be a big brother to my players. We are going to work hard to achieve our objectives,” Chelle declared.

Eric Chelle acknowledged that despite the time constraints, he is willing to take full responsibility for the outcome of the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, as he and his team strive to secure the Super Eagles’ spot in the tournament.

”Time is the enemy of the coach, but I take my responsibility. If you want to be a great coach, you need to take some risks and make some sacrifices,” Chelle said.

While Nigerians will be hoping that Eric Chelle can restore the country’s football glory, the immediate task of the head coach is to supervise the Super Eagles B team ahead of the 2024 CHAN tournament, scheduled to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania next month.
