‎‎Enyimba will look to turn a new page in their 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign as they travel to Minna to face Niger Tornadoes at Bako Kontagora Stadium this Sunday.

The nine-time league champions are hoping that their new head coach, Deji Ayeni, can lead them to a first win after a challenging start to his tenure.

‎‎Since taking over, Ayeni has experienced mixed fortunes. The team opened his reign with a 2–0 loss to Shooting Stars and followed that up with a goalless draw against Barau FC in Aba.

Rather than losing confidence, the setbacks have motivated the coach to push for a positive outcome on the road.

‎‎Ahead of the match, the squad journeyed to Abuja on Friday before continuing to Minna. Speaking to the club’s media, Ayeni stressed the squad’s concentration on earning points away from home.

“I want our fans to remain positive and prayerful for us,” he said, insisting that the players have moved past the disappointment of the stalemate with Barau.

He also pointed to the significance of this stretch of fixtures, noting that the midweek trip to Nasarawa United in Lafia will be crucial in setting the tone for the second half of the season.‎‎

Looking at past encounters, Enyimba have generally had the upper hand over Niger Tornadoes. Of the 20 meetings between the sides since 2009, Enyimba have won 10, Tornadoes have claimed six victories, and four matches ended in draws.

Last season, the reverse fixture in Aba ended in a win for Enyimba, reinforcing their historical advantage over the Minna-based side.‎
