Nigerian shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has clinched the first gold medal for Nigeria at the African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.
Enekwechi’s remarkable throw of 21.20m not only secured his victory but also set a new Championship Record.
This win marks Enekwechi’s third consecutive gold medal in the African Championships, following his wins in Asaba, Nigeria, and Mauritius in.
Enekwechi tied the record for the most gold medals won by a male shot putter in the Championships after Egypt’s Ahmed Mohamed Ashoush (1984, 1985 and 1988) and Burger Lambrechts who won in 1998, 2010 and 2012.
