Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen has named Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, in his starting line-up for the all-important 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Cheetahs of Benin at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boihny in Cote d’Ivoire.
Osimhen returns to the starting lineup, replacing Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who had been the favoured center-forward in the last four qualifying games. Boniface was dropped for footballing reasons, having failed to find the back of the net for the team in those games.
Eguavoen maintained a 3-4-3 formatting that sees Stanley Nwabali man the pist and a three-man defence comprising of skipper William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey and newly invited Gabriel Osho who has been a standout player for Ligue 1 side Auxerre this season.
Ola Aina and Bruno Onyeamaechi will be joined by Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi in midfield while the front three consists of Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.
The Eagles are already guaranteed qualification for the AFCON set to hold in December of 2025 after Libya claimed a 1-0 away victory over Rwanda earlier today.
