Nigeria’s D’Tigress remained the 12th position in the latest Power Rankings released by FIBA ahead of the commencement of basketball events at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Power Rankings released on Thursday saw the D’Tigress, who are the only female team from Africa at the Olympics stay in the last position out of the 12 teams playing at the Olympics.
Volume 1 of the Power Rankings which was released on July 13 had also seen the D’Tigress in the 12th position.
The U. S. team who are looking for their eighth-straight Olympic gold medal, sit unchanged in first, while hosts France are up one place, leapfroging Belgium to second place.
In fourth are Australia, who also move up one place from the previous Power Rankings. China, Canada and Spain also all move up one place each to fifth, sixth and seventh respectively, while Serbia are two place up to eighth.
The leaps of the other nations see Japan drop five places to ninth, while Germany are down one place to 10th.
Puerto Rico and Nigeria are, however unchanged in 11th and 12th positions respectively.
According to FIBA, “The Power Rankings are entirely subjective and is in no way a true, accurate ranking system.”
Nigeria lost their two friendly games 77-63 to Germany and 70-62 to Serbia, and are pitched in Group B against France, Australia and Canada.
They start their Olympic campaign on Monday, July 29 against Australia before playing two days later, and wrap up their group fixtures against Canada on Sunday, August 4.
