D’Tigress forward Amy Okonkwo, earned a spot in the All-Star five lineup following her stellar performance at the recently concluded FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 held in Antwerp, Belgium.
Okonkwo played a pivotal role in securing D’Tigress’ qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris later this year. She shares the spotlight with other standout players including Belgium’s Emma Meesseman, who clinched the TISSOT Most Valuable Player award, and the United States duo Napheesa Collier and Rhyne Howard, along with Senegal’s Yacine Diop.

During the tournament, Okonkwo showcased her talent with an impressive display, registering a team-leading 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in a crucial victory over Senegal. Despite Nigeria’s challenging match against the United States, Okonkwo managed to contribute nine points, two rebounds, three steals, and one block.
In the game against Belgium, Okonkwo continued her strong performance, adding 16 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Throughout the competition, she emerged as Nigeria’s standout performer, averaging 15.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across three games.
Looking forward to the Paris Olympics, Okonkwo aims to elevate Nigeria’s performance. Her determination stems from her modest performance at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where she averaged only 2.7 points and 1 rebound per game—a statistic she is eager to improve upon.
