Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers have been drawn to play Senegal, Mali and Uganda in Group A of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament to be  played between August 12 to 20 in Lagos.

Teams in Group B include DR Congo, Tunisia, Cameroon and Guinea.

The Pre-Qualifying Tournament route was created for teams who failed to qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup later this year. Nigeria will be hoping to return to the Olympics having featured in the last three editions – 2012 in London, 2016 in Rio and 2020 in Tokyo.

According to the pre-qualifying rules – the winners of each FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament will line up at one of next July’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, with the winners of those clinching spots for Paris 2024.

Nigeria qualified for the 2012 Olympics through the qualifying tournament.
