D’Tigers rise to 50th in latest FIBA world rankings

Nigeria’s D’Tigers have climbed three places to 50th in the latest FIBA world rankings after securing one win from three games in Window 1 of the 2027 FIBA Men’s World Cup qualifiers in Qatar.

The team had previously dropped 11 spots to 53rd in the rankings released before the start of the qualifying window.

During the series, Nigeria managed just one victory, an overtime win against Rwanda. after earlier losses to hosts Tunisia and Guinea. D’Tigers currently sit third in Group C.

Within Africa, Nigeria also moved up one spot, rising from eighth to seventh, and now trail South Sudan, Angola, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Cape Verde, and Tunisia.

Globally, the USA retained the No. 1 position after recording two wins over Nicaragua in the Americas qualifiers. Germany, the reigning 2023 World Cup and EuroBasket 2025 champions, remains second following victories against Israel and Cyprus in the European qualifiers.

The rest of the top 10 features Serbia, France, Canada, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Lithuania, and Brazil.
