Chidera Ejuke to leave Hertha Berlin end of season

Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke will not play German Bundesliga 2 football with relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin as he is free to leave the club at the end of the season. With two games till the end of the season, Hertha are closer to being relegated than surviving the drop.

Hertha are currently bottom of the league table with a merger 25 points from 32 matches and their 5-2 loss to Koln last Friday further cemented their spot in the relegation zone but a loss on Saturday to fellow relegation threatened VFL Bochum will confirm their relegation status.

The capital side have recorded just one win in their last 10 league games losing eight times and recording just one draw. Their only win came against 17th place VfB Stuttgart on May 6.

Ejuke joined the club on loan in the summer of 2022 from Russian side CSKA Moscow – he was one of the players who fled Russia due to their ongoing war with Ukraine. His contract with Hertha expires on June 30 which means he will not face the drop to division 2.

Personally, Ejuke has had a season to forget, he’s failed to find the back of the net in the 19 Bundesliga games he’s featured in while only providing three assists. His season was also plagued with a knee injury that saw him miss 13 league games.
