Defender Bright Osayi-Samuel will miss Birmingham City’s visit to Bristol City on Saturday after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season during their 1–0 away victory over Preston North End on Tuesday.

The Nigerian international returned to the starting lineup for the first time since recovering from an injury that ruled him out of the Super Eagles’ final Group C World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, as well as two league matches for Birmingham.

Bright Osayi-Samuel was cautioned in the 12th minute – his fifth booking of the campaign – which automatically triggers a one-match suspension under league rules. According to EFL regulations, any player who accumulates five yellow cards before the midpoint of the season serves a one-game suspension, while ten bookings before the halfway mark lead to a two-match ban.

Interestingly, the full-back was deployed as a left winger on the night following a pre-match injury to Patrick Roberts. He was later substituted for Marc Leonard in the 54th minute.

The victory marked Birmingham’s fourth win of the season, leaving them 12th in the Championship table with 15 points from 11 games, ten points adrift of leaders Coventry City.

Coventry hold a four-point lead over second-placed Middlesbrough, which could be reduced to three if Birmingham secure maximum points away to Sheffield United.
