BREAKING: Everton open contract talks with Alex Iwobi

Everton have resumed contract talks with Nigeria international Alex Iwobi as they hope to tie the Super Eagles star to the Goodson Park after his recent impressive performances, Boldsportsng reports.

Iwobi who joined the club on deadline day in 2019 has had a turbulent start at the Merseyside club but his recent performance since the arrival of manager Frank Lampard has won over the team’s diehard fans who have continually showered him with accolades.

The 26-year-old’s current contract runs till 2024 but the management of the club have identified the Eagles midfielder as an integral part of the club and will be hoping to offer him a contract extension. The club has also opened talks with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and forward Anthony Gordon who has been on Chelsea’s radar.

According to transfer specialist, David Ornstein, “Preliminary conversations have taken place in regard to Iwobi — as well as team-mates like Pickford and Gordon — and that dialogue is set to ramp up in the coming weeks, with the Goodison Park hierarchy seeking to extend their careers on Merseyside.”

Iwobi was named the Player of The Match as Everton recorded their first win of the season against West Ham United on Sunday. He provided the assist for Neal Maupay to score his first Everton goal since joining from Brighton in the summer.

The Nigerian in recent weeks has stated that he is having his best spell at the club. He’s scored seven goals while providing nine assists in a total of 104 games for the Toffees.
