Nigeria’s Super Eagles sealed their place in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Angola 1-0 in their quarter-final game on Friday.
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman continued his knockout stage goalscoring form, slotting in the game’s only only goal after a delightful pass from Moses Simon.
The goal saw Simon become only the fourth Nigerian to score three goals or more in the AFCON knockout stage after Odion Ighalo (2019), Jay Jay Okocha (2004) and Rashidi Yekini (1994). The former England youth international had earlier scored both goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the round of 16.
