Players and officials of NWFL Premiership defending champions Bayelsa Queens were attacked by supporters of Ibom Angels following their hard-fought 2–1 away victory in a Matchday 5 encounter in Uyo.
Kesiena Ojiyovwi opened the scoring for Bayelsa Queens in the 20th minute before Janet Akekeromowei doubled the lead just before halftime in the 40th minute. Helen David pulled one back for Ibom Angels in the 59th minute, but the goal proved to be merely a consolation as the hosts suffered their third defeat of the season.
Things spiralled out of control at the final whistle as eyewitnesses confirmed that Ibom Angels fans invaded the pitch and harassed Bayelsa Queens players and officials.
A video shared by sports journalist Robert Olimene and circulating on social media showed fans attacking Bayelsa Queens players and members of the coaching staff. Head coach Whyte Ogbonda was reportedly assaulted and left with an injured lip.
Goalkeeper Linda Jiwauku was also attacked during the scuffle, while several other players and officials sustained injuries.

An NWFL official confirmed that the league body is already addressing the incident and is currently reviewing video footage and match officials’ reports. A disciplinary decision is expected to be announced soon.
