Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam have completed the signing of Nigeria international, Calvin Bassey, from Glasgow Rangers for €30m plus addons according to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
The deal sees the Nigerian become Rangers’ record export after academy graduate Nathan Patterson who moved to Everton in a deal worth up to £16m in January.
Ajax had identified the centre-back who can also play as a left back as a long-term replacement for Argentine Lisandro Martinez who is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United for around €55m.
Bassey had become one of the most sought-after utility defenders in Europe after his impressive performances for Rangers on their way to reaching the final of the Europa League where they lost to Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt, a match he was adjudged the Man of The Match.
“Calvin Bassey deal details: €22m fee guaranteed, €5m add-ons and sell-on clause around 10% of future sale. Long term contract for Bassey, top signing confirmed. Announcements expected soon for Francisco Conceição, Brian Brobbey and Calvin Bassey,” Fabrizio Romano tweeted.
Bassey is expected to undergo his medical in a couple of hours. The 22-year-old made a total of 50 appearances across all competitions while providing six assists joined Rangers in 2020 for a meagre £230,000 from Leicester City.
Bassey becomes the third Nigerian to leave the Gers this summer after the departure of Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo.
