Quadri Aruna delivered a masterclass in grit and determination on Tuesday night, coming from behind to beat Germany’s Benedikt Duda 4-2 and book his place in the fourth round of the Men’s Singles at the 2025 ITTF World Championships in Doha.

With Egypt’s Omar Assar knocked out earlier, Aruna is now the last African standing in the men’s draw—a responsibility he embraced with trademark flair at the Lusail Hall.

The Nigerian started well, edging the first set 11-9, but Duda struck back hard to take the second 11-4. Aruna shifted tactics in the third, attacking Duda’s forehand more aggressively to regain the lead with an 11-8 win.

A disputed service fault at 2-2 in the fourth seemed to throw Aruna off rhythm, and Duda pounced, taking the set 11-2. But that setback only sparked the Nigerian into life.

Down 3-9 in the fifth, Aruna mounted an astonishing comeback, saving multiple points to level at 9-9 before sealing the set 12-10. With momentum on his side, he powered through the sixth 11-9 to complete a 4-2 win and punch his ticket to the next round.
