Nigeria legend, Daniel Amokachi, is eyeing a coaching job in Europe – a move which shuts him out of contention for the Super Eagles coaching job at the moment.
This move comes weeks after Amokachi had rejected an assistant coach role with the Super Eagles offered by the Nigerian Football Federation with the job conditions without salary and his involvement with the team will be based on the discretion of the head coach.
Bold Sports learnt that Amokachi spent two nights in London discussing potential coaching offers with his former club teammates.
“He (Amokachi) is in the company of some of his former teammates who are now agents and some coaches,” a source close to Amokachi revealed.
“For now he wants to get a job in Europe.”
As a player, the former Ranchers Bees star played for Club Bruges, Everton and Besiktas. He also featured at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups and won Olympic gold with his country in 1996.
He was also a member of the Nigerian squad that won the Africa Cup Nations in 1994 in Tunisia.
It was also gathered from a close source that the 51-year-old is open to coach clubs in clubs from Turkey and Israel regardless of the division.
In 2016, Amokachi was appointed coach of Finnish club JS Hercules and was promoted to the position of technical director a year later.
Amokachi also worked as an assistant to the late Stephen Keshi from 2011 to 2015 – as well as former Eagles coaches Austin Eguavoen (2005-2007) and late Shaibu Amodu (2008-10) and Lars Lagerback (2010).
Amokachi scored 13 goals in 44 caps for Nigeria in the 1990s.
