Akor Adams found the net as Sevilla claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in their La Liga clash on Saturday, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigerian International, who now has eight league goals in 25 appearances, broke the deadlock few minutes into the game. His strike set the tone for an impressive performance from the hosts, ending their five-game winless run.

Akor Adams’ goal came via a penalty just 10 minutes in. Defender Dani Martinez committed a foul in the box and after a VAR check, the spotkick was awarded. The Nigerian striker stepped up confidently and smashed the penalty into the net, making it 1-0.

Atletico Madrid leveled the score line in the 25th minute as Javier Boñar marked his debut for the club with a goal. However, Sevilla regained their lead just before halftime through Nemanja Gudelj’s header, making it 2-1.

The second half was a much more quiet affair with the hosts protecting their advantage and the visitors struggling to create anything threatening. Ademola Lookman was introduced in the 71st minute, but that didn’t change much as Sevilla held on to secure victory.

The win takes Sevilla three points clear of the relegation zone. They currently sit 15th on the table with 34 points in 31 games. Meanwhile, Atletico remain fourth with 57 points.
