Captain Rasheedat Ajibade scored twice as the Super Falcons defeated Algeria 2-0 in an international friendly on Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
The Falcons, fielding a largely rotated squad, dominated Algeria in the first leg of the two-match friendly series.
Ajibade, a regular starter, opened the scoring for Nigeria with a precise finish, marking a strong start to head coach Justine Madugu’s tenure.
The Atletico Madrid forward doubled her tally in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, firing a shot from outside the box into the top right corner of Algeria’s net.
The Falcons entered halftime 2-0 up and in control. Both teams had opportunities in the second half, but neither could convert, leaving Nigeria with a 2-0 victory.
The two sides will meet again on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos for the second leg of the friendlies.
