Kano Pillars secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over defending champions Enugu Rangers in their matchday 7 clash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Wednesday.
Eager to rebound from their 2-0 loss to Akwa United, the Pillars came out strong, netting four goals in the first half.
Veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali scored twice, while Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa and Zikilifu Rabiu added to a memorable first-half performance for the visitors.
Enugu Rangers responded in the second half, with Isaac Saviour scoring two goals in the 48th and 60th minutes. Silas Nenrot pulled another back in the 91st minute to make it 4-3, but Kano Pillars held on for their first away win of the season.
The victory lifts Pillars to fourth place in the league table, with three wins, three losses, and a draw from seven matches.
Ahmed Musa, in his third consecutive start, continued his fine form, scoring his third goal in as many games.
For Rangers, it marks their third defeat of the season, as they look to defend their title. They now trail league leaders Remo Stars by five points and Rivers United by four, with both teams holding a game in hand.
Pillars, after splitting their last two away fixtures, will aim to secure maximum points when they host Kwara United on Sunday.
